FAMILY FUN

Parents have a duty as Christians to engender joy and love for the Christian faith in their little ones. Although it's good for the kids to learn scriptures, books of the Bible, do other "spiritual" things, it's just as vital for them to grow up having fun, meaning events and activities such as fun get-togethers, picnics, barbecues, winter-day TV movies fests, a weekly family-focus night including family boardgames, other games, music, singing, popcorn etc.

James says to be no part of the world of wickedness, but we know that we are still upon this planet with other people whom we are to show love for. At James 1:27, James points out that "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

So we who are adults need to be sure to help distressed orphans and widows, and can even take along our youngsters to help as we show hands-on love for others in need, who can also include the alien residents in the land (migrants), the poor in general, those who are sick, lame, blind, etc.

Besides hosting Christian "love feasts" (parties) for the needy or various Christian friends, we can consider the greater community. For example we as adults and our children might adopt a stretch of a street or road to help keep clean, plant flowers to beautiful a community, plant fruits trees to help feed the needy and wildlife, help found a neighborhood garden, volunteer at an existing food pantry etc.

The possibilities are endless. So, let us consider prayerfully how to be raising up our children to love God so that they can enjoy such an upbringing and want to continue on as a matter of happiness with their own children. God is not only awesome in power, majesty, glory and wisdom, but also awesome in being the God of loving-kindness and happiness. Joy is one of the fruits of God's Holy Spirit. (Galatians 5:22)
