Christ condemned “the love of money” that is greedy, not the use of money
itself in a fair, honorable way. Also, healthy competition in business is just that:
healthy. Clearly it is unhealthy where there is no competition, for it brings stagnation. Monopoly
definitely tends to bring greed.
Christ said
those who forgive others can in good conscience pray for their daily bread, the basics of life. It is un-Christ-like,
an unChristian injustice, to take from the poor the basics for life. (Matthew 6:11) Indeed
Christ said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a greedy rich man to go to heaven. (Matthew
19:24)
Some people think the poor and needy need to take care of themselves, and they also ignore crying
of the poor and needy, but Christ says we must be our brother’s keepers, fine shepherds, that the poor are with us always.
He said to throw a party for the blind, lame and needy, and don’t we remember
that he fed fish and bread to the hungry crowds? (Matthew 14:19)
A Christian imitates Christ. Paul said to not neglect the poor or needy. (Galatians
2:10) The other apostles also showed tender care by more than words, literally doing hands on acts of loving-kindness.
We are saved by God’s grace, not by any number of works that we might do, but, still, a Christian does things
such as the Master did. To not extend ourselves beyond mere words is either no witness to God’s kindness
or an outright anti-Christ witness to Satan’s darkness.
As Christians we choose to follow Christ. He is the Most Faithful and Discreet, the Most Loyal
and Wise of all who have ever slaved for the glory of God The Father. He is our Lord. Amen.
