THE APOSTLES' CREED
IN MANY LANGUAGES
About fifty years after
the last apostle died what is called the Apostles’ creed (beliefs) was written down. It has summarized
basic Christian beliefs for some 2,000 years, being used by both Catholics and Protestants and thus uniting most all Christians.
When Protestants say the Apostles’ Creed the word “universal” is usually used instead of “Catholic.”
ENGLISH (a modernized version): I believe in God Almighty the Father, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus
Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into the grave but the third day rose again from the dead, ascended
into heaven, and sits upon the right hand of God Almighty the Father. From there He will come to judge the living and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church; the saints' fellowship in Christ, the forgiveness
of sins; resurrection of the body, and eternal life. ENGLISH (Traditional): I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried, He descended into hell; the third day He
rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence
He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Holy Catholic Church; the Communion of saints;
The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life Everlasting. SPANISH: Yo creo en Dios el padre todo poderoso, creador de los cielos y la tierra. Y Jesucristo, su unico
hijo y primojenito, nuestro Senor. Quien fue concevido por El Espiritu Santo, nacido de la Virgen Maria. Sufrido
bajo Poncio Pilato, fue crucificado, muerto y enterrado, El desendio hasta el infierno. El tercer dia resucito desde

terceiro dia; subiu ao Céu; está sentado à direita de Deus Pai Todo-poderoso, donde há de vir
para julgar os vivos e os mortos. Creio no Espírito Santo; na Santa Igreja Universal; na comunhão dos
